Even many of us who have been following the Ferguson shooting have never heard Darren Wilson’s voice before. Some of us even watched yesterday’s ABC interview with a bit of trepidation. What if Wilson is a really nice guy? What if he seems totally sincere, caring and remorseful? What if his words carry the ring of absolute truth, and we’re forced to re-evaluate everything we believed about him. We braced for the possibility. And…
No. Wilson turned out to be just as repulsive, cold, just as cruel-eyed, just as matter-of-factly homicidal as we’d imagined he might be. And utterly reeking of bullsh*t to boot. With all the air of a George Zimmerman — a man with a gun looking for an excuse to kill — Wilson recounted his quite practiced story to ABC. And sseing it, you might have been forgiven for thinking you were watching Anthony Michael Hall portray his eponymous serial killer in Dexter.
And evidently, Michael Brown’s parents had exactly the same reaction. This morning, his father (Michael sr.) and mother (Lesley McSpadden) went on the Today Show to give their take on Dexter Wilson’s interview. Their revulsion and immediate retch of cop-bullsh*t was barely contained, as has been the case for many of us who’ve seen it.
Brown’s father, Michael Sr., maintained hope of a conviction in federal court. His mother described the last 36 hours as “heartbreaking.” When asked if he thought it possible that his son could have been the instigator as Wilson claims, Michael Sr. flatly denied it.
“No. For one, my son wouldn’t…he respected law enforcement. Two, who in their right mind would rush or charge at a police officer that has his gun drawn? It sounds crazy.”
When asked about Wilson’s description of Brown as looking like a “demon,” and saying that he’d “never seen anyone look as crazy as him,” Lesley said:
“It’s like insult after injury. Really. So disrespectful.”
