Less than 24-hours after it was dedicated, a tree planted to memorialize the death of teenager Michael Brown was hacked down.
Local affiliate KMOV reports that the Black Caucus of the American Library Association dedicated the tree in a Ferguson park over the weekend. But come Sunday morning, only the trunk was standing — the rest of the tree had been senselessly cut down before its time, just like Brown himself.
Also missing is a memorial stone that had been dedicated with the tree.
The tree, according to the Caucus, was supposed to be a “symbol of peace and comfort and hope for all who gather under its branches.”
The police department is investigating the incident, but there’s no suspects at this time.
