In a meeting with House Democrats, President Obama quipped that the Republicans have a list of demands that only lacks his resignation.
Actually, the GOP has a huge mess on its hands as the American public becomes increasingly upset with Congress, put most of the blame on Republicans and the Tea Party.
The situation can get significantly worse as default looms if the debt ceiling is not raised.
Some people are blaming President Obama for this mess. Is it because he successfully worked to enact the expansion of health care? Or because he had the temerity to get re-elected?
The fact remains that there is the separation of powers set forth in the Constitution: The Congress passes the budget and the legislative branch holds that responsibility.
So to summarize, the Congress is not doing its job. Collectively, members are not respecting a system of rules and processes. They are allowing a minority faction to shutdown the government and dictate new rules.
President Obama is correct: the original trigger for the shutdown was Obamacare and now the GOP keeps adding items to their ransom note.
After all is said and done, it remains unclear what the GOP wants.
