Alas, Babylon! Woe unto you, great city, for in one hour your doom has come…in the form of Colorado Republican representative Gordon Klingenschmitt. Yes, in perhaps the best-ever example yet of what happens when people don’t vote, online exorcist “Dr. Chaps” (as he prefers to be called) just became an official lawmaker in Colorado’s 15th district.
You might remember Dr. Chaps as the chap who wrote a book last year calling out the “demons” in Barack Obama. Co-authored with the voices in his head, Dr. Chaps’ shook up the Amazon Non-Seller List with “The Demons of Barack H. Obama: How the Gift of Discerning of Spirits Reveals Unseen Forces Influencing American Politics.”
Chappy has gone onto some fame in the waiting rooms of mental institutions nationwide for his YouTube videos, during which he closes his eyes and exorcises the demons of deception, tyranny and evil that inhabit Barack Obama, driving him to persecute the religious denomination that makes up 80 percent of this country.
Dr. Chaps, though, powerful in the spirit as he is, has already been roundly disowned by his fellow Republicans. Said Colorado GOP Party Chairman Ryan Call:
“Gordon does not speak on behalf of the Republican Party. To suggest otherwise is inaccurate and dishonest.”
Of course not, Ryan! No reason anybody would think that.
In point of fact, there’s not much reason to believe that Dr. Chaps represents anyone…apart from about 3,500 of the biggest loons in Colorado.
Yes, in a district of 96,911 people, only 6,600 even voted in the Colorado House of Representatives Republican primary between Dr. Chaps and opponent Dave Williams. Of those votes, 52 percent (3,483) went to The Exorcist, with barely 300 votes separating the two. That’s right — America’s newest (shockingly anti-gay) embarrassment was put into office by fewer people than inhabit the scented candle section of your local Walmart. Though they probably didn’t smell like candy apple.
In this opening segment from Rachael Maddow’s “Friday Night News Dump,” our host introduces America to its newest Republican lawmaker. And the footage of his online “exorcism”…well, it pretty much speaks for itself.
“I want to discern the spirits [of Barack Obama] here, and there is a…” closes eyes “…spirit of hiding, spirit of secrecy. And it’s lawbreaking, and it’s lawlessness, and they’re able to hide behind the scenes, and we’re able to expose that as a really…just a really, evil, Satanic, evil spirit. of violation. Of tyranny, ultimately.”
