We’ve seen it many times in movies and on television, Dad protecting the virtue of his “little girl” by threatening boys with a shotgun or some other weapon. Recently, life imitated art when a Maryland father took a baseball bat to the young man sending “inappropriate” texts to his 15-year-old daughter. In this case, the “young man” was her 42-year-old teacher.
It all started when the girl’s parents contacted local authorities after becoming aware of multiple texts shared by their daughter and her teacher, texts that authorities say “described an emotional relationship that seemed inappropriate for a teacher and student.”
Later, the teacher showed up at the girl’s house asking to speak with her father. He was asked to leave and when he refused, the father picked up a baseball bat and hit him with it. The teacher suffered minor injuries from the beating but chose not to file charges against the father.
Local police found nothing criminal about the texts and so no charges have been brought against the teacher. However, the police have turned the case over to the Crimes Against Children Unit for further investigation.
