As many of you know, “Benghazi” has been one of the most-used words among right-wingers since 2012. Since the day of the dreadful terrorist attack that left four men dead, we have heard feigned sympathy for the lost almost immediately followed by demands to know exactly how President Obama was involved. How much did he know? Did he issue a “stand down” order? Where’s the birth certificate? (unrelated, but seems to often be part of the same conversation as manufactured Obama “scandals”). Who gave the order to stand down? Was it the President? Impeach! Secdee! Melon Lube!
A new report released on Tuesday by the House Armed Services Committee concluded that there was no way for the U.S. military to respond in time to save the lives of the four Americans killed in the 2012 attack in Libya. The Benghazi “scandal” has been described as “worse than Watergate” by Rep. Steve King, though with Watergate at least there was a scandal.
According to Media Matters, FOX News claimed in at least 85 segments that a “stand down” order was issued. The report concluded that “Given the military’s preparations on September 11, 2012, majority members have not yet discerned any response alternatives that could have likely changed the outcome of the Benghazi attack.”
Democrats on the panel asked Republicans if we could please finally move on from Benghazi. “This report, produced by House Armed Services Committee Republicans, should finally bring an end to the politicization of the heinous attacks on brave Americans in Benghazi,”Representatives Adam Smith (D-CA) and Niki Tsongas (D-MA) said in a statement, “It is time to move forward, take the real conclusions we have arrived at and establish how to best protect our citizens around the globe. It is our hope that today’s report, which was authored by Republicans, finally brings this attempt to manufactured scandal to an end.”
The only question regarding Benghazi that remains is, “Will the manufactured scandal finally end?” Stay tuned.
