A couple who tried to get seats on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 are very thankful today that the flight was full.
Barry Sim and his wife Izzy tried to get seats on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but they were informed that there was not enough room for them and their baby on the ill fated flight. Instead, they booked a later KLM Airlines flight. The Sims live in Kuala Lumpur and were traveling home. Sim was asked by a reporter for the British newspaper The Telegraph, “What was the first feeling you had [after you heard the news]?” A visibly shaken Sim replies:
Just shock. You get this sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. You start getting butterflies. Your heartbeat starts going.
The reporter asks, “Are you religious?” Barry Sim shrugs and motions to his wife. A bit later in the interview, Izzy Sim says:
There must have been someone watching over us and saying ‘you must not get on that flight’.
The interview ends with Barry Sim’s somber comment, “I just feel sorry for all the families.”
