A little girl thought her daddy deserved a little more time off work — specifically on his birthday, so she took matters into her own tiny hands. In crayon, Katie wrote to Daddy’s boss and asked if he could please, please, have his birthday, which was on a Wednesday, off of work.
Her argument was sound: It is summer, and Daddy normally only gets the day off on Saturday. His birthday was on a Wednesday, and he deserves to have the day off.
“Dear google worker,” the letter read. “Can you please make sure when daddy goes to work, he gets one day off. Like he can get a day off on Wednesday. Because daddy ONLY gets a day off on Saturday.”
Not only did Senior Design Manager Daniel Shiplacoff compliment Katie’s dad on his hard work, but he also gave him a week’s paid vacation to spend with his daughter. It’s summer, after all, and everyone deserves a Wednesday (or a week) off once in a while.
“Thank you for your thoughtful note and request,” Shiplacoff responded. “Your father has been hard at work designing many beautiful and delightful things for Google and millions of people across the globe. On the occasion of his Birthday, and recognizing the importance of taking some Wednesdays off during the summer, we are giving him the whole first week of July as vacation time. Enjoy!”
So, folks, if you desperately need a day off…talk to your kids. They can help.
