The Sunday talk shows had two favorite guests: John McCain and Lindsey Graham, the Mutt & Jeff of the Senate. Two old, white Republicans who have been shown, time and again, to be partisan hacks. There isn’t a thing President Obama has done that one or both of these whiners hasn’t attacked him for it.
This past Sunday, it was Lindsey Graham’s turn to
bitch speak about the current conditions in Iraq. It’s not hard to guess what he had to say: the chickenhawk (he lied about his military service) was saber-rattling. Again. On Fox News, where his message of fear and militarism is always welcome, it seems. Not one to shy away from favorite topics of his viewers, Chris Wallace let Graham fear-monger.
“I think of an American city in flames because of the terrorists’ ability to operate in Syria and Iraq. Mr. President, you have never once spoke directly to the America people about the threat we face from being attacked from Syria, now Iraq. What is your strategy to stop these people from attacking the homeland?”
Lindsey, don’t have an attack of the vapors. You are not privy to every thought in the President’s head. And why on earth would he want to share ANY of those with you? You have attacked him incessantly from day one. You blamed Obama for everything from the Boston Marathon bombing to the invasion of Crimea to the to the influx of refugees at the border.
Graham doubled down when Wallace asked if the Senator was saying we should go back to war:
“I’m saying that Iraq and Syria combined represent a direct threat to our homeland. His responsibility as president is to defend this nation. If he does not go on the offensive against ISIS, ISIL — whatever you want to call these guys — they are coming here! It is about our homeland, and if we get attacked because he has no strategy to protect us then he will have committed a blunder for the ages.”
Blunder for the ages? Let’s talk about blunders for a minute, Lindsey. Graham supported the Bush administration when they lied about… well, everything, to get us into Iraq. He carried water for Bush Co. and voted to go to war in Iraq. He was one of those responsible for getting over 4,000 of our troops and many more thousands of Iraqi citizens killed. He was wrong. His statements on Sunday harken back to the “smoking gun mushroom cloud” quote that Condoleezza Rice threw out in 2002. And we know that was a bald-faced lie.
Lindsey Graham is no expert, despite being the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee. He has no credibility on this issue. This whining, war-mongering coward has the temerity to say that Obama has no vision?
The same people who got us into that useless war in the first place are pushing for us to go back. Some do it because they have stock in the companies that make tons of money off of war. Some do it because they appear to love the U.S. being in a state of war. These same men, who ignored warnings about an attack on American soil in 2001, are now using the fear about that event to attack President Obama. Please, just shut up.
Watch Lindsey Graham and Chris Wallace.
