The holiday season has been met with some surprising good deeds!
Two days past the layaway plan payoff deadline as items were due to be returned to the shelves (with deposits lost), an “older” woman walked into a Mesa, Arizona Walmart layaway department with a heartwarming request: She had $5,000 to spend, and she wanted to spend it paying off unpaid layaways.
Employees went to work, delving into layaway records alphabetically. As they called the beneficiaries of this anonymous woman’s generosity, employees were met with tears of joy. “I said but your layaway is paid off and there goes the tears … they just start crying with joy and I’m glad I was a part of it,” said store manager Rita Barreras.
Thanks to this amazing woman, roughly thirty layaway orders were paid off for some very grateful families. Most of the orders included bikes, toys, and video games. Some of the orders totaled $300 or more.
When asked why the “Layaway Angel” did this, she explained that she remembers her mother not being able to pay off their layaways on Christmas, so she always kept that in her mind.
