The billionaire brothers, Charles and David Koch, are distancing themselves and their name from the government shutdown.
That may come as surprising news to the rabid tea party folks in Congress and the castrated GOP leadership attempting in vain to deal with their antics.
Conservatives seem to act as if anything done or said the day before yesterday doesn’t count, and shouldn’t be remembered.
Of course, the brothers Koch did advocate not supporting a CR until Obamacare was defunded, as was stated in a letter sent out last winter from Freedomworks, one of the many ways that the Koch Brothers contribute to society. Crippling unions is another example of the harm the Koch brothers have done to our nation.
This action by the Koch Brothers is significant for many reasons.
The two billionaires have taken unpopular stands before, backing up their ultra conservative ideas with a lot of money, have seemingly been impervious to public opinion.
The shutdown must be a debacle on such a grand scale, that they have separated the name Koch from this course of action!
We can only imagine how many of the more extreme politicians in the GOP, who receive financial backing from the Kochs (allowing such folks to be more independent of the traditional party structure), must feel in the wake of this news.
As for the government shutdown: most citizens have been hurt by the immediate affects and the problems will continue to grow, as a myriad of important tasks can not be undertaken.
It’s such a problem, that now even billionaires realize it.
