The Tea Party cannibal feast continues into the weekend, as Representative Peter King (R-Corn) lashed into Senator Ted Cruz (R-McCarthy) as the reason for the increasing popularity of the Affordable Care Act. In typical tea-twisted fashion, King blames the shutdown stunt as a diversion that took America’s mind off the “disastrous” ACA launch. Easily distracted Americans were so put off by the government shutdown, that their Obamacare hatred dissipated.
While hatred is in no short supply among the Tea-tainted, at the same time it seems to be a zero-sum game for us poor helpless Americans being played by Obama. In short, the shutdown made people like Obamacare more because they hated the shutdown even more than they hated Obamacare. To paraphrase that young lady in the popular smartphone commercial, you have less more by having more less, because less is more and you can’t have more if it’s less. Let us pause while you consider the soggy pretzel your brain just became right now.
Appearing on Fox News – which almost doesn’t need pointing out – Congressman King sarcastically opined that President Obama should be so grateful for Senator Cruz’s help, that the president should donate to the senator’s next campaign. If Cruz keeps dragging the Republican Party down with him, I think the president might just take King up on that advice.
Fox News has had plenty of help from mainstream media outlets in selling the idea that Obamacare’s launch was a failure, by exploiting the normal launch glitches websites experience. Since it really isn’t considered a failure by the thousands of Americans who successfully applied for insurance, the only way to ignore this inconvenient fact is to make up an alternative reason for its burgeoning popularity. Hence, King cynically blames the shutdown. Point fingers, deny responsibility, smear your rivals, and just outright lie. Because hey, this is Fox News, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
