A Kansas man faces first-degree murder and aggravated battery charges after he allegedly performed an illegal abortion on his girlfriend–with a pancake.
Scott Bollig, 30, is accused of crushing mifepristone, a drug that ends pregnancy that is less than 7 weeks along, into his girlfriend Naomi Abbott’s pancakes, causing her to lose her fetus. Medical evidence shows that Abbott did, indeed, ingest the drug.
Bolling told investigators he purchased five of the pulls for $60 on the internet and served them in a pancake without Abbott’s knowledge on January 26 or 27. She ate three-fourths of it and, when she lost the baby, he threw the other four pills away.
The investigation began when Abbott, a Trego County jailer, expressed concerns to a coworker that her boyfriend may be putting something in her food to terminate her pregnancy.
Bollig’s lawyer has filed a motion to suppress statements he made to law enforcement, claiming that his client was not properly advised of his rights before the statements were made. When asked why no recording was made of Bollig’s interview with Kansas Bureau of Investigation agent Kevin Campbell and WaKeeney Police Chief Terry Eberle, Campbell responded, “I guess I’m from the old school. If there’s two cops in a room interviewing a person, you don’t need a recording.”
Bollig’s bond has been set at $500,000
