Former NAACP Chairman Julian Bond has no love for the racist Tea Party, which Bond feels is the “Taliban wing of American politics.”
Appearing in an interview with Thomas Roberts on MSNBC, Bond discussed IRS investigation into the NAACP in 2004, and whether or not it is parallel to the current IRS targeting of newly-formed 501c4 organizations including “Tea Party” and “Patriot” groups. Bond told Roberts that the targeting of the NAACP and the Tea Party-type groups are not the same thing.
As AATTP reported, these “patriot” and “Tea Party” groups, including Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS groups used the tax exemption as a way to hide who their donations were coming from which were basically money-laundering scams made legal thanks to the Citizens United ruling. 501(c)(4) provides for exemption from federal income tax of civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare. Stephen Colbert recently discussed these conspiracy boondoggles, as well as the targeting of his own Super PAC in this hilarious video.
Bond had some choice words for the Tea Party,
“I mean, here are a group of people who are admittedly racist, who are overtly political, who tried as best they can to harm President Obama in every way they can…They are the Taliban wing of American politics. We all ought to be a little worried about them.”
