In a day to honor the life of Nelson Mandela, a man who forgave and embraced his foes and tormentors and inspired millions all over the world, Jon Stewart had no choice but to mock the American media for obsessing over the irrelevant details, such as the Obama/Castro handshake.
That’s right! That evil America-hating Marxist, President Barack Obama, reached out to a known communist during a memorial service for the late Nelson Mandela. Obama shook hands with Cuban President Raul Castro, which leaves us only to believe that the two countries are taking a page out of Mandela’s book and embracing one another or that Obama sympathizes with communists and wants to destroy America.
On The Daily Show, Stewart cried out in frustration, “What the f*ck is wrong with us?!” A question many brain-gifted people are contemplating all over the world. Stewart then teased John McCain after McCain’s Hitler comparison:
“Why should you shake hands with someone who’s keeping Americans in prison? I mean, what’s the point? Neville Chamberlain shook hands with Hitler.”
Yes, another exhausted Hitler comparison. Because no American president in history has ever shook hands with a leader of a tyrannical regime…well…I mean George W. Bush kissed a Muslim leader from Saudi Arabia once while holding hands, but that’s cool, right? I mean obviously in some cultures it’s custom for men to hold hands. It really isn’t that big of a deal, except in the context of right-wing homophobia and machismo.
So, just as Stewart asked, what the f*** is wrong with us?! Handshakes are customary at a funeral. What did they expect — for Obama to punch Castro in the throat?
Anyway, the point is that no matter what Obama may do, the RW media spin machine will find a way to twist his actions. So, Mr. President, the next time you greet a world leader, make sure to lay a big deep kiss on ‘em, just like that guy who did nothing wrong before you did! It would be fun to watch the figure heads at Fox News explode.
