Welcome, back Jon Stewart! We’ve missed you and your amazing team’s input on all things political this last week. As evidence of just how much we miss out on every time The Daily Show with Jon Stewart takes a week off, we present the following clip from last night’s show.
Stewart blasted into the Black Friday pandemonium at stores like Walmart with aplomb, as well as landing solid comedic punches to the jaw of the right-wing media machine for their coverage of the Obamacare website struggles versus how they covered the violence at Black Friday shopping events throughout the country.
Focusing on the right’s insistence that the private sector is the best upstanding example of American life there is to be seen, Stewart then played clips of fights, stabbings and shootings that all took place around Black Friday shoppers this past weekend.
“Yeah, there’s something about the holidays. It reminds us that we love to gather ’round the crackle of a stun gun,” said Stewart after one clip was played showing a shopper being subdued with a Taser.
Perhaps the Comedy Central host’s most compelling criticism came though when he pointed out the hypocrisy in Walmart’s site crashing being called a victory for capitalism while healthcare.gov’s woes have been universally panned as an epic failure.
“So if a website crashes trying to give people health care it is a national travesty but if Walmart’s website crashes while its stores are filled with people disemboweling each other to get ‘Skyfall’ on BluRay?”
Stewart asked the audience as he kissed his fingers in irony.
