Jon Stewart is not about to allow Governor Nathan Deal and Mayor Kasim Reed to get away with transferring the responsibility for their major failure in response to winter storm Leon this week to the National Weather Service. He soundly rejected the claim by Governor Deal that the weather service had not given them proper warning that the storm would strike Atlanta, as he pointed out Thursday night on the Daily Show, “the Weather Channel is Located in Atlanta!”
Pointing out that the governor was specifically handed a memo with the subject line proclaiming, “Snowstorm Determined to Strike Within Atlanta,” Stewart wonders why no one saw this coming as the governor claimed.
Reed was not going to get a pass for his failures either. Stewart shows a clip from Anderson Cooper in which Cooper displayed a tweet from the mayor’s office on Tuesday which read, “Atlanta we are ready for the snow,” followed by a photo of both Reed and Deal only a short time later accepting an award for being Georgian of the year rather than making plans to deal with the coming storm.
Reed claims that the city proper was evacuated and that he has no authority over the interstates which were jammed with stranded motorists. This of course completely ignores the fact that those motorists were belatedly attempting to leave the city where he does have authority.
Jon finished the piece with correspondent Asif Mondvi reporting “live” from a “25-news-box pileup,”on an interstate which passes through Atlanta along with 24 other news reporters dispatched by a local news channel.
Watch Jon brilliantly place the blame where the blame belongs in the video below.
