On Monday night’s Daily Show host Jon Stewart braved a ride through the house of horrors that is Dick Cheney’s mind and proclaimed it “the scariest f*cking place in the universe.”
Playing a clip from Cheney’s appearance on Meet the Press Sunday, Stewart observed, “that is why he is the best/worst. Dick Cheney setting this nation’s moral bar at anything incrementally better than the most despicable thing that has ever been done to us.”
Next, Jon played a clip of Chuck Todd asking him about Gul Rahman, who was chained to the floor of his cell nearly naked, doused with water and left to die of hypothermia. Rahman was later found innocent of any wrong doing.
Of course, Cheney first deflected the question, saying people who had been released from custody who later returned to the battlefield to continue to fight against our troops is more an urgent issue than an innocent man who died at the hands of his C.I.A. torturers.
Stewart went on to note that Cheney does feel bad, not about what was done to the prisoners at these black sites, but about being asked to answer questions about it.
As Jon points out, Dick Cheney is “impervious to doubt; it never enters his mind” he supported it and that is that, it must be right because he is never wrong.
Jon ended the segment “on a note of gratitude,” saying, “George W. Bush, thank you for not dying while you were in office.”
