John Hagee to Atheists: Accept America as a Christian Nation or LEAVE

Clearly, history is not one of Pastor John Hagee’s strong suits. He fired his latest salvo in the imaginary war on Christmas at atheists saying that this is a Christian nation and if they don’t like that they are free to leave.

Attacking those who would speak truth to the historical roots of the Christmas celebration he said, “Humanists are now making the claim that Christmas was originally a pagan holiday.  Hey, dummy, look at the word: Christ-mas.”

While it is true that Christmas comes from the original Roman Catholic term “Christ’s Mass,” the word is the only thing with strictly Christian roots — all of the rest of the trappings and rituals of the holiday come from much older pagan celebrations.  In other words, as the good pastor ridicules those who know the history, he only displays his own ignorance.

He is apparently unschooled in the intent of the Constitution as well, since after suggesting that non Christians avail themselves of the frequent flights out of the country he concludes, “It’s time for the majority to rule this nation!”

Sorry again, Pastor Hagee, but the intent of the Constitution is to prevent absolute rule by the majority.  Unfettered, majority rule would rapidly become tyranny by the majority, the sort of thing that pastor Hagee advocates.

About Bob Cull

I'm retired and live in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. I have strong opinions and my political bent has not changed since I was in high school. Most of my family thinks that I need to find a "real" hobby to fill my time in retirement, but I am content to share my opinions with others and exercise my "right" as a cranky old retired dude to express my views--which are based on many years of real world experience.

Nice speech of acceptance of all people. I wonder if his god taught him to promote separatism in America, that christians are the superior religion? This nation is made up of a great many people, many religions, many ideologies that make this country what it is. This speech is made with simple objectives in mind: To teach hatred, singular superiority and pay John Hagee well for it. Doesn’t this type of behavior strip him of his tax exempt certificate?

I’m staying. He’s welcome to leave if he wants to. Nobody’s stopping him from leaving if he doesn’t like it here.

I am a USArmy Veteran and an atheist, and I believe in, and served for our nation to be free for all of our people. Even hateful divisive, self entitled religious nuts like John Hagee
If he ( #JohnHagee ) and his christian taliban buddies want me out of America? They can damn well come try and make me leave.

This sh*t has become so ridiculously exhausting. B*tch, you’re not the boss of the America, so sit down and shut the f*ck up.

Counter proposal: any religious conservative that can’t accept the secular nature of our constitution is welcome to move to a strict right wing theocracy like Iran or Saudi Arabia at any time.

    A little history….. let’s see…

in the 18th century, a “Christian Nation” was one ruled by a King and aristocracy (and their families) who were CHOSEN BY GOD to rule. This is what a Christian Nation was in 1776 and 1787. The USA was specifically designed NOT to be a Christian Nation, but to have its citizens choose their representatives in government rather than some families appointed by god.

My people have been fishing, farming and preaching the Gospel in this country for nearly 400 years. If this jerk thinks I should get out for not agreeing with his particular superstition, I invite him to come and try to make me leave. I’ll revert to my ancestors’ religion long enough to drink mead from his skull.

    • Steve Framke

400 year? Your kin Indians and Christians…..? I don’t think so.

      • Juliet

You do know that there were British colonists in this country BEFORE the Revolution, don’t you? They showed up in the mid-1600s. And before that were the French and Spanish. Nothing prevents Mr Leavenworth having Spanish or French ancestors.

      • Frances Duran

Look it up. The Spaniards walked into New Mexico in December of 1598. That was a little over 400 years. I descend from these very Christian people

      • masteradrian

Go back to school, and get some history backup lessons, or take the trouble to educate yourself at the library………. Remember Columbus? Remember his treason of the then inhabitants of what we now refer to as America? Remember the slaughtering of the people then living in what we know as America? Sure you do……… as do all those who claim to be proud christians who descend from that one man and his criminals!
How someone can claim to be a proud christian with such an history is beyond me, really! Descending from murderers, rapists, killers, thieves… I would deeply feel ashamed! Really I would!

  • W.G.

People should google “Apostate Watch” and see what real Christians with real degrees say about “Tubby Hagee ” . First off his doctorate is only “Honorary” and a Whole Bunch of other facts about this chubby charloten .

  • http://gravatar.com/ribluebird ribluebird

If this is suppose to be a Christian Nation! Why if the Bible say you should not kill and Jesus preached love and respect to all. Why were so many Native and First people killed? The slaughter of the Bison/buffalo so they could not live. Oh yes we were a nation built on love and respect for all.

  • Daniel

When the Hagee’s of the country are in charge, how long will it be before the fires for heretics back?

    • Juliet

Once there’s an official Christian denomination, it’s only a matter of time before those not on the ‘approved’ list are oppressed, and after that, rounded up and killed.

  • TweeBee

Such a charming man! Note how happy he is!

His knowledge of history and the constitution is sorely lacking. And remember….as a megachurch pastor his church gets a tax break and doesn’t have to file IRS Form 990 which means they needn’t disclose their income as other nonprofits do.

  • James

The only actual weight John Hagee is in that wide, southern Baptist ass of his.

    • Gray Hunter

Really! We in the real world rarely hear anything about him…. only his most nutty of utterances. And he apparently has a big mega-church. But he’s no Pat & Jerry show!

  • Thorsten Stier

Isn´t this the kind of people with that dogmatic, ignorant and arrogant way of thinking why your forefathers left Europe!?

  • https://www.facebook.com/sandra.chung Sandra Chung

Hey, Mister Hagee.. Treaty of Tripoli, suckah! So pack up your buy bull and stick it, and your blatantly idiotic comments, up your ass sideways. You want to live in a Theocrasy, move to Iraq or Iran.

Dear Mr. Hagee: No. Care to try and make us?

  • http://none Caroline Reznicek

It is times like this, listening to terroristic, hell-fire and damnation hate “sermons” of the Hagge ilk, that I wish I believed the Fires of Hell were real, because if they were, this guy would be a prime candidate to go there.

  • http://notagoodideasherlock.wordpress.com alyssamwbc

I think it’s funny they get so offended and insecure because we don’t believe in their imaginary friend. What really needs to happen, seeing as there will always be these nutcases trying to promote a theocratic government, is for all freethinking atheists and agnostics to stand proud, united to promote the ACTUAL Constitution and demand it be upheld. Despite the ignorant stigma, there is nothing shameful or “evil” about looking at the world logically.

  • http://gravatar.com/latenightlarry latenightlarry

    Dear Mr. Hagee…

The US Constitution not only guarantees freedom OF religion, it guarantees freedom FROM religion, AND guarantees Americans the freedom to practice their religion of choice, not just your strait-jacketed cynical religion free from interference from brainless demagogues such as you. If you can’t accept that, all those Arab countries will allow you to go there PROVIDED you convert to Islam… You see, they don’t have freedom of religion or freedom from religion.

  • http://gravatar.com/les4toads Lester Milroy

This kind of stupidity is the reason our forefathers did not establish the United States as a “Christian Nation!” The persecution would have followed and the religious majority would put the country right back into a theocracy. This religious fervor is just unreal. The hypocrisy is just overwhelming. There is this literal interpretation of the bible that is just beyond belief. It is self serving and does not teach the foundations of brotherly love! It is hate, hate and more hate! When the “extreme religious” are ever in power, there will be revolution! Individual freedoms will be taken away because of “biblical scriptures” interpreted by those who have no clue! The United States is no at theocracy! People have to be aware and stop this stupidity!

    • Juliet

Heck, they had examples in the colonies themselves. The Puritans were not ones to ‘agree to disagree.’ If you disagreed with the town elders, you had two choices: keep quiet or leave town. (Although they had to relent a bit because people kept voting with their feet.) And the Founders knew their recent European history.

But you have these reactionaries who look back to a past that never existed and think everything would be great if we ‘returned’ to the fantasy.

  • Dave

Is that why he let’s Shawn Michaels hang around his church with his long hair? To be his enforcer? If you step out of line at the Hagee church you get superkicked in the head by Shawn.

  • http://jade4142.wordpress.com jade4142

    Dear Mr. Hagee:

    A loving atheist

It always blows my doors off when Christians say things like this. There are many atheists in positions of power who do not pronounce this country to be their own.

All of the atheists I know work humbly in soup kitchens and in other service to humanity in their time away from work and family Compassion has no religion; it simply has a conscience.

Pastor Hagee continues the lie about Christians being fed to the lions. And Happy Holidays respects all faiths and their celebrations.

Why do Christians think they’re silent? They invade and pervade every aspect of our lives. If we were the demons they paint us as, our money would say nothing about their faith, and their God would be removed from our pledge to be true to our nation. Young men and women would join scouting without an issue being made of their faith.

Christianity, atheism and humanism will be truly tolerant at last when no one even speaks those words again.

  • masteradrian

I do apologize, but I disagree with you Bob….. the pastor is not ignorant…. he is just plain and simple stupid…… and dangerous!
Ignorant people have the ability of being able of learning, to get knowledge to end their ignorance and not-knowing!
Were the pastor is in fact saying that America is a religious country, as Iraq, Saudi Arabia based upon a religion, he in fact is a religious terrorist, as bad and sick as those who were flying into the WTC (as we know they did so not so much because they were against America as a nation, but for religious reasons (if we of course to believe the outcomes of the official investigations into the 911 disaster… being another topic)).
I think it is safe to state that people like the pastor are as sick and as foul as those religious terrorists who claim supremacy by the islam faith, and in my opinion this pastor should be treated equally clearly and without any mercy!
But then, that’s is of course just my opinion…….

    • http://jade4142.wordpress.com jade4142

I never thought I’d approach a man and say such things, but there it is. Will yolu marry me?

      • masteradrian

Are you proposing to me? :-{)
I took the liberty to read your blog on WP, and though I have read and re-read it, I am unable to figure out -what- you are… I see -who- you are, a person with honor, respect and dignity, and with the most honorable thoughts about other human beings, but as a gay man I am destined (I think) to marry a man, so you see (hopefully) my problem there… I cann’t figure out if you are male or female (from your blog that is).
So, I suggest, lets have a spiritual engagement first……….. and find out were that leads us :-{)
And we don’t need that stupid and dangerous pastor to show us the path to real and open freedom and liberty!
        (and I think I know I shouldn’t have written this (here)) :-{)

    • Thorsten Stier

      Right on Point!

    • Bob Cull

I did have a line in my first draft, Masteradrian, which spoke to the fact that his ignorance is born of choice. Those who are willfully ignorant are worse than the stupid, the stupid cannot learn, the willfully ignorant WILL NOT learn, that is truly sad.

      • Gray Hunter

And of course, Hagee will not learn … all the way to the bank. We know who his real god is.
