If Bobby Jindal expects to live up to the TEApublicans fantasy of rescuing the party from the teeth of irrelevance and shame, he’s got a funny way of doing it. This week the sanest of the bunch of former GOP Presidential contenders Jon Huntsman spoke in support of marriage equality in a column for The American Conservative, saying, “the American people will not hear us out if we stand against their friends, family, and individual liberty.”
Huntsman continues, “Today we have an opportunity to do more: conservatives should start to lead again and push their states to join the nine others that allow all their citizens to marry. I’ve been married for 29 years. My marriage has been the greatest joy of my life. There is nothing conservative about denying other Americans the ability to forge that same relationship with the person they love.”
Building a winning coalition to tackle the looming fiscal and trust deficits will be impossible if we continue to alienate broad segments of the population…Consistent with the Republican Party’s origins, we must demand equality under the law for all Americans,” said Huntsman
Sounds reasonable doesn’t it? Sounds like something a liberal would say. Too bad Huntsman is playing for the wrong team.
On Meet The Press today, David Gregory asked Jindal if he thinks that marriage equality a conservative value. Now keep in mind, Jindal had recently called his party “The Stupid Party” but here he decides that perhaps the TEApublicans aren’t crazy enough!
“Look, I believe in the traditional definition of marriage. Let’s be clear about what happened in this last election. We had an election that was dominated by domestic issues… We still lost an election where a majority of the American people said, ‘We think the federal government is doing too much.’”
Wait WHAT? The election was a referendum on President Obama and his liberal policies. The American people heard what the TEApublicans were trying to sell them and they decided that the liberal way, was the way to go. Yeah, the Federal Government is doing too much: Too much by enforcing DADT, and the DOMA. Thank you, President Obama for putting a stop to all of that.
Here is more of disingenuous liar, and future failed presidential candidate, Bobby Jindal:
