Nowadays, the American public has come to accept just about anything from the intransigent Republican Congress and their right-wing echo chamber. However, their new plot to undermine President Obama with manufactured scandals takes their abhorrent behavior to a whole new height.
A new bombshell report from Major Garrett at CBS News has uncovered the fact that it was unnamed “Republicans on Capitol Hill” themselves that provided the erroneous quotes linked to the White House emails regarding how to address the September 2012 attack on the U.S. embassy in Libya.
Over the past few days, the conservative media mistakenly ran with the story, which attributed an email to then-Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes asking that talking points related to the attack “reflect all agency equities, including those of the state department” without undermining the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
While conservatives were quick to pounce on these erroneous quotes as evidence that the Obama White House was editing coverage of the attacks for political purposes, what the email actually said was that the matter should be resolved “in a way that respects all of the relevant equities, particularly the investigation”.
Adding insult to injury, CNN also reported that these same Republicans provided a false attribute to States Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland saying that “the penultimate point is a paragraph talking about all the previous warnings provided by the Agency (CIA) about al-Qaeda’s presence and activities of al-Qaeda.”
However, Nuland’s email made no actual mention of the terrorist group, instead warning that “the penultimate point could be abused by members to beat the State Department for not paying attention to Agency warnings.”
This pathetically manufactured scandal only serves to provide further evidence that the modern-day GOP is grasping at straws and doing everything in their power to distract America from their obstructionist austerity agenda–and the fact that the U.S. economy is improving while the deficit is rapidly shrinking. The truth is, there is absolutely no evidence linking the White House to any changes made to the talking points. Rather, it was a mutual decision by the State Department and the CIA in an effort to make the talking points less specific.
Somehow, in the delusional minds of modern-day Republicans, this is just one of the many manufactured Obama scandals that are “worse than Nixon’s Watergate.”
