Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has been selected to serve on an NCAA committee, tasked to choose 4 college teams to play in the national semi-final games as part of a new system that has been devised to replace the Bowl Champion Series (BCS).
F. Scott Fitzgerald once famously wrote that there are no second acts in America. But that’s not necessarily true; there are plenty of second acts, plus, third, fourth, fifth and encores. You might even get a new heart, as Dick Cheney can attest to.
The fact that members of the George W. Bush gang were not tried as war criminals could possible be rationalized that such acts would divide the nation — or divert attention from the pressing problems his administration caused.
Many would agree that any trial would have been a slam dunk, given that they have admitted to torture, grave mistakes and massive ignorance.
Ms. Rice, what was the name of the security briefing? Al Qaeda determined to attack America?
BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock defends choosing Rice:
“Condi definitely earned her spot on this committee. She knows this game; she is a student of this game. Athletics reported to her at Stanford. She had to know the game. My conversation with her from the beginning was fascinating to me because it was clear from the start how well she knows the game and what a good, tremendous committee member she was going to be.”
Let’s hope WMDs don’t have to be located or intelligence memos briefed.
