WOW! If you’re looking for a powerful video to share with your idiot Uncle Jeb to detail why it is important to introduce sweeping and positive firearms regulations, this is the one!
The video, posted on YouTube by Dana Spaeth Photography, features kids holding cards that detail the asininity of refusing to take measures that protect children against gun violence by
“If you have children you MUST watch and share this video! It’s time to stop the madness and protect our children from America’s epidemic of gun violence!” Spaeth says in the video description.
“Dear mom and dad,” the cards read. “You slather me with sunscreen, buckle my seatbelt, and enforce my curfew. You protect me from pesticides, second-hand smoke, and germs. You tell me to look both ways, wear my helmet, and eat my vegetables. I am your everything. Yet every day, you leave me in danger that no other developed nation would tolerate.”
“Every day while you’re worrying about the little things,” the cards continue, “I am 17 times more likely to be killed by a gun than kids in the top 25 developed nations combined. My country is turning a blind eye on my right to live. And it’s time to do something about it.”
“Do you think I haven’t noticed how the blood drains from your face when you hear the news again and again and again?” they continue. “My school was in lockdown 3 times/5 times/8 times this year, and while I’m under my desk worrying if I’m next my country is arguing for common sense with politicians and the NRA.”
“Is this the America out founding fathers had in mind? Could they have ever imagined that protecting their pistols would one day enable Adam Lanza to fire 154 rounds in 4 minutes, killing 20 kids like me?” they go on.
“It’s time to stop. Stop telling me it’s complicated. Just look at the numbers. Every day in America 52 kids get shot. 6 are murdered. 2 kill themselves. 44 survive with lasting emotional and physical trauma. Guns kill twice as many American kids as cancer. Guns kill more children under 5 than law officers in the line of duty.
The evidence is overwhelming. A gun at home does not protect me. A gun at home makes me 3 times as likely to be murdered, 3-5 times as likely to commit suicide, and 4 times as likely to cause my own accidental death.”
“How many statistics do you need?” the video asks. “Will my life be enough?”
“So forget about buttoning my coat and making me take my vitamins. Get to work on saving my life!” the kids conclude.
