Right-wing blogger and Twitter troll Charles Johnson, editor-in-chief of Got News, has filed a federal lawsuit requesting homicide victim Michael Brown’s juvenile records.
This desperate attempt to find something — anything — with which to demonize the unarmed African-American teen who was gunned down by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson comes after many attempts on Johnson’s part to sway public opinion through hit-pieces claiming witnesses were coached by the Black Panthers and targeting the community as a whole.
Apparently, Brown’s expired driver’s permit is even an issue for Johnson:
Right-wing media has attempted in vain to hurt Brown’s public image by railing on about a video in which Brown allegedly shoplifts a box of cigars, although enhanced video may show the teen paying for them. Ferguson police have admitted the “strong-arm robbery” is unrelated to the reason Brown was stopped in the first place but that has not stopped white-priders from characterizing Brown as a “thug” and a “typical low-IQ Negro.” In any case, the store owner has confirmed that neither he, nor any employee, reported a robbery.
Right-wing blogs have pushed the blatant lie that the confrontation between Brown and Wilson left the officer with an orbital blowout fracture, something over which FOX News and other outlets salivated. However, that was shown to be false, as well.
As the lies pile up, and are repeatedly dispelled, one thing is clear: They need something — anything — to use against the teenager, because the truth is an inconvenient thing. While Ferguson police did not bother with an incident report, and St. Louis County’s tells absolutely nothing, an independent autopsy has confirmed initial witness statements that claim Brown was shot with his arms raised in surrender.
Some have turned to the surprising racist spirit world to affirm their bigoted desire to view Brown as guilty, while the KKK, “not-racist” white people, and Ferguson police have been holding fundraisers to reward Wilson for removing Brown, who was about to begin college, from the streets.
Johnson’s effort to demonize the youth through his alleged juvenile records struck a chord with the Riverfront Times after the Post-Dispatch also filed a request for the records.
“What we’re arguing is that since he is deceased, those documents revert from being confidential, they revert back into the public sphere,” Jonathan Burns, who is handling the attempted character assassination in court, said. “Missouri common law applies, and under Missouri common law, court records and virtually all other documents are open to the public.”
GotNews was unable to even spell Brown’s name correctly. (see photo caption below)
In response to these attempts to use whatever may or may not exist in Brown’s (not Barnes’) sealed records to convince the world that an unarmed teenager somehow deserved to be gunned down without a thought, the Riverfront Times has taken a novel approach: They want Darren Wilson’s records.
The Riverfront Times announced:
In response to a number of inquiries today, the Riverfront Times confirms that it is seeking the juvenile records of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, the man who shot and killed Michael Brown.
After the Post-Dispatch announced Friday that it is seeking the juvenile records for Brown, many people on Twitter asked that the same scrutiny be placed upon Wilson, who is currently under investigation for the shooting death of the unarmed 18-year-old man.
This is just one avenue of many in our continuing commitment to cover a significant news story for our community.
We have taken this action as a professional news organization, independently and not in conjunction with any other organization, as we seek to report facts and not rely on innuendo or speculation.
If those desperate to paint Brown as a “thug” consider the teen’s juvenile records to be fair game, it logically follows that Wilson’s are, as well. After all, he had a tough childhood and his mother is a convicted felon. The assumption could be made that the officer, who was terminated when his prior police department was shut down for rampant racism and corruption, has a shady past as well.
In addition, Ferguson is not exactly a stranger to officers being named in lawsuits. At least six officers have been named in suits, including Justin Cosma, who faces allegations that he assaulted and “hog-tied” a child. Cosma is also named in a $40 million civil rights lawsuit filed by five Ferguson protesters. Ferguson police are so awful that they brutalized and arrested the wrong man, then charged him for getting his blood on their uniforms.
Does Wilson’s juvenile arrest record matter in regard to the murder of Michael Brown? Only as much as Brown’s, which is not much at all. However, if we’re going to delve into the insane prospect of using sealed juvenile arrest records to demonize a deceased teen, we must be willing to do the same with Wilson’s.
While it’s unlikely that either party’s juvenile records will be released, one thing is for certain: Some people will do anything any everything to justify a white police officer gunning down a black teen — and that is sickening.
