Mike Huckabee, one of the current front-runners in the race for the 2016 GOP nomination, spoke last month at his Florida church, Destiny Worship Center. The speech was purportedly about his new book, “God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy,” but the bulk of the talk was dedicated to denigrating New York, Hollywood, Washington D.C. and pretty much all the country that isn’t the South or the Midwest.
It seems that Mike doesn’t think of any of us who live elsewhere are “real” Americans.
“The culture that we live here — and frankly that’s lived not only over the South, but over the Midwest and in most of what we call fly over country — is dramatically different than the culture that’s lived in the bubbles of NewYork, Washington D.C. and Hollywood.”
He went on to say that people in these “bubbles” think that they are the norm and that people like him are crazy.
Mike is missing the reason that people think that he and those of like mind are crazy although he proceeded to show what might convince people that he is.
He told a story that he says happened as he was talking with his staff at Fox News about the topic of gun control. He said that the subject of AR-15 rifles came up and one of his staff opined that no one needs an assault weapon to which he replied:
“Every weapon is an assault weapon, a pencil is an assault weapon if you poke it in someone’s eye.”
He boasted that he taught those silly New Yorkers a lesson on assault weapons, telling them that just because it’s featured in a Rambo movie did not qualify a weapon as an assault weapon, and that everything they see on those weapons serves a practical purpose.
He then told them that he owns several AR-15s which, according to him had a devastating effect on those unsophisticated New Yorkers.
“They were scared to death,” he laughed, “I thought they were going to dive under the table, I really did, it was like they were, ‘He’s a psychopath.'”
