Details from a new book has been released, and it tells the account from an ex-deputy director of the CIA, who says Republicans in Congress distorted the intelligence agency’s account of what happened during the attack in Benghazi Libya.
Writing in The Great War of Our Time, Michael Morell declared there was no stand-down order, a claim that conservatives have consistently maintained had happened.
In addition, Morell says flat-out there was no “conspiracy between C.I.A. and the White House to spin the Benghazi story in a way that would protect the political interests of the president and Secretary Clinton.”
However, he also says that the State Department failed to increase security for diplomats at the Benghazi embassy, and that the CIA should not be in the business of prepping talking points that can end up being used with political intent.
You can read more about Morell’s account in the New York Times.
