It’s like a singularity of stupid. I’m surprised the studio didn’t collapse in on itself with both of them there at the same time.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) made the remark while lashing out at President Obama over the immigration crisis. He told Fox Host Tucker Carlson that:
When the president has worked on a strategic plan to deal with ISIS — or not — maybe he didn’t have enough time to think about education. But you think about it, he calls it a Dreamers bill, what he proposed, but it is more of a nightmare.
Gohmert added that it’s not fair to throw the kids who only speak Spanish in a classroom with students who only speak English:
It’s not fair to kids that come in and speak only Spanish, throw them in a classroom with English-speaking students. It’s unfair to both the English-speaking and to the Spanish-speaking students. It is not fair. And not only that, Texas is going back, and you’ve got to speak Spanish to teach English in a school. It is incredible the amount of cost that’s being shoved onto the Texas schools.
It sounds like Gohmert is really worried about our students. When do we start with the poverty reduction programs, Mr. Gohmert, since poverty can have just as huge an impact on language learning as being an ESL student?
Carlson, in turn, said that the immigrants were going to schools in the United States as part of a “scam,” since there were people who enrolled that were “pretending to be kids who really aren’t.”
No, that doesn’t make any sense at all. Just move right along, nothing to see here.
Gohmert insisted that the president was “thinking only about the foreign students,” and that teachers had to bring education down to the lowest level as a result, which means we weren’t “educating our kids the way they should be” and that it was a “disaster to these schools.” And, of course, Gohmert tossed in a potshot against Obama regarding golf, because why not?
It isn’t fair the local students. It’s not fair to the schools, and we bear the cost of the president dreaming. I think he’s daydreaming. I don’t think it’s a Dreamer bill, it’s a daydreamer. He’s daydreaming while he’s playing golf. The answer’s on the 18th hole.
Might as well be there, since it’s clear Gohmert doesn’t have it.
