Ohio Republicans continue their laser-like focus on jobs with yet another anti-abortion bill, but what they didn’t count on was one Democratic representative unloading on them.
The bill in question is one of those so-called “Heartbeat Bills,” which would ban abortion after the fetal heartbeat is detected. These bills often draw artificial lines for the beginning of life — after all, if a heart makes someone alive, every Republican politician in the nation is a walking corpse.
The legislation would require doctors test for a heartbeat in the fetus, which could be as early as six weeks into the pregnancy. If they detect one and the doctor proceeds with the abortion, he would face felony charges. If the bill becomes law, it would effectively ban all abortions, except when the pregnancy endangers the mother’s life and health. It includes cases of rape and incest.
During the debate, State Representative Teresa Fedor (D) became so frustrated that she stood up and revealed that she had been raped and terminated the resulting pregnancy:
You don’t respect my reason, my rape, my abortion, and I guarantee you there are other women who should stand up with me and be courageous enough to speak. What you’re doing is so fundamentally inhuman, unconstitutional, and I’ve sat here too long
She had been raped many years ago, while she was in the military. Fedor said that some of her family members didn’t know what had happened to her. She dared them to judge her, saying that the debate was purely political:
I dare any one of you to judge me, because there’s only one judge I’m going to face… I dare you to walk in my shoes… This debate is purely political. I understand your story, but you don’t understand mine. I’m grateful for that freedom. It is a personal decision, and how dare government get into my business.
While she spoke, a man in the audience laughed at her, because of course he did. She addressed it, saying, “I see people laughing and I don’t appreciate that. And it happens to be a man who is laughing.”
Fedor is one of many women lawmakers who have come forward, sharing their experiences with sexual assault.
The bill passed nevertheless, with a vote of 55-40.
The “pro-life” movement are nothing but hypocrites, or tools who can’t see through their own emotions. They want to use the state as a tool to force people in compromising their bodily integrity. By their extreme collectivist thinking, the state can come in, at any time, and force you to sacrifice your body for another human being.
But only if you’re a woman. God forbid we expect the same thing out of men.
And they whine about income redistribution. They want organ redistribution. From living humans.
