If you thought the belief that corporations were conspiring against the American public was merely a conspiracy theory, here’s your proof.
There was a time when bills became law after discussion, input from voters through representation of elected legislators, and public scrutiny in the press.
Now, thanks to documents leaked recently to the Guardian, we know that ALEC bills are the bills we must watch, if we can, and protect ourselves against.
Here’s how it works. ALEC, The American Legislative Exchange Council, a conservative lobby group with the tax status of a charity, arranges mini conventions for politicians, corporate representatives and lobbyists at luxury locations.
Together they plot how to accomplish things like privatizing education, prisons, cut taxes, reduce public employee compensation, oppose Obamacare and resist state regulations to reduce global warming gas emissions and most importantly, how to fast track the bills that uphold their agenda without engaging in a lot of public dialogue.
This hilarious cartoon explains how ALEC works. Enjoy!
