Bill Maher took potshots at Sarah Palin on Real Time, for her calls to impeach President Obama. She’s written op-eds for both Breitbart and Fox News, explaining what the problems are, like we don’t already know what laws she thinks he’s broken. While she hasn’t actually put out official articles of impeachment (she can’t, Congress has to do that), her cries for impeachment are so ridiculous and uninformed that it wouldn’t be surprising if any articles she wrote really did sound like this.
Crooks and Liars posted video from Real Time, and here are some of the articles that Maher reads off:
- For allowing children to illegally cross our borders from countries like El Segundo
- For covering up the attack at Ben Garazzo
- Some s**t she heard on the radio
- For killing Nicole Brown Simpson
- For underwear no longer having actual tags on it at Target
Maher does a wonderful job of highlighting the absolute hilarity of someone like Sarah Palin calling for the impeachment of our president. As one commenter on Crooks and Liars pointed out, “impeachment” is the new way for Republicans to attempt to undermine the democratic process.
The Chicago Tribune took its own shots at her for the same thing. Author Rex Huppke made it sound a bit more official, but still highlights some of Palin’s ignorance of U.S. law, along with her pervasive airhead personality. Article I reads:
“In his conduct while ‘President’ of the United States, Barack HUSSEIN Obama, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President (the way Reagan did, God bless him) and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States (shouldn’t this be Bible?) has willfully opened up our southern border to godless heathens (too soft?) and created a border crisis that is the back that strawed the camel’s grizzly bear USA gun freedom tyranny fries.” [emphasis mine]
Making fun of Sarah Palin is just too easy, especially when, in her actual op-eds, she makes it clear she has no idea what she’s talking about. This country’s problems (if you read her words as she apparently intended them) began, or suddenly got much worse, as soon as Obama took office.
For instance, in her op-ed on Fox, she does her very best to sound like she knows what she’s talking about by not only invoking the Constitution, but also invoking Alexander Hamilton and William Henry Harrison. However, her first reason for impeaching Obama is that he set five terrorist prisoners free from GITMO without notifying Congress. She clearly hasn’t read Article II of the Constitution, nor has she done any rudimentary research into what the powers of the military’s commander-in-chief actually are. In her world, if Congress requires it, then the president must abide by it, whether it’s constitutional or not.
She claimed he refuses to enforce laws he doesn’t like. It’s not that he refuses to enforce laws he doesn’t like, it’s that he refuses to enforce laws he believes are unconstitutional, which is actually his duty, if he is to adhere to the Constitution. The example she used was our immigration laws. Suddenly, illegal immigration is this huge problem that Obama’s ignoring, and even making worse, while some of the current problems were actually set in motion during previous presidencies, including George W. Bush’s. Republicans in Congress blocked immigration reform, and yet, it’s somehow all Obama’s fault, and problem.
And of course, BENGHAZI! We can’t forget Benghazi! Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi! But never mind all those other attacks on U.S. consulates when other presidents were in office.
On Breitbart, she whines about the trillions we have in debt, but the national debt is a problem that’s been in the making since Reagan. It didn’t suddenly happen beginning in 2009. The deficit has actually been falling at its fastest rate since WWII, but as long as Republicans refuse to enact revenue increases, and claim that tax breaks aren’t traditionally offset by spending cuts so only new spending needs offsetting, we’ll continue to have a deficit, which will continue to increase the national debt.
The cities are broke, which, of course, is all Obama’s fault. It can’t possibly have started under Reagan, who cut federal funding to cities for everything from housing to infrastructure after he was elected.
So is it really any wonder that Bill Maher and the Chicago Tribune are getting a kick out of making fun of her? One could say it’s long past time to stop giving her a voice, but with gems like these, it’s really difficult.
