Senator Lindsay Graham (R-I Don’t Have a Clue) opposes The Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare because it would adversely affect his buddy who owns a bunch of Wendy’s franchises.
Now that’s working for the public good.
Let’s quote the Senator minus the southern drawl.
“Friend of mine owns 52 Wendy’s, he’s put pen to paper, he has 40 percent of his workforce insured today,” Graham explained. “Under Obamacare, if 20 percent choose insurance, his insurance costs will double. That story is repeating itself throughout the economy. Obamacare is a debacle that will go into 2014.”
Not certain about the math. The GOP is notoriously inept when it comes to counting. Hard to image if 12% more of his workers want health coverage it would double his costs. (20% of the 60% not already insured is 12%)
This is but one of the many problems. False drama and predictions of fake ruination. And crummy math.
Obamacare has just been launched and yet a host of GOP politicians are certain it would devastate our nation.
Since we are the only developed country without this and studies portend that health care will improve and some costs will decrease, all the tales of catastrophe appear to be lies.
Back to Graham. Nice to know that he has a buddy who is quite wealthy. Now it’s time for him to be a patriotic and responsible citizen by providing his employees with basic minimum benefits.
And is Graham suggesting that the country should abandon legislation that passed both Houses, was signed by the President and vetted by the Supreme Court because some guy who dispenses fast food doesn’t want to ante up?
Senator Graham, is that your most persuasive argument?
Here is the real deal. There were a few glitches launching the program. If shoes have to break in and new technology needs to be tweaked, then initiating the process was understandably a little rocky.
But Obamacare will not only work it will become a major success. People will talk about the dark days before with wonder and fear.
“Yes Sonny, there was a time when your mother and I thought we could never get coverage because of her pre-existing condition.”
“Grandpa, is it true that America once let 15% of the citizens go without health insurance, unable to get medical treatment and risked losing everything if they got sick or injured/”
“Yes, it is hard to believe, but once America stood alone among sister countries, not taking care of all the people.”
