On Saturday, Open Carry Texas held yet another rally at a Target in Irving. According to Anomaly at FreakOutNation, a Target manager who identified herself as Tracy confirmed that the chain, which caters mostly to women, does not have a problem with heavily armed extremists flooding its stores. In fact, Tracy says she knew in advance that the gun-toting mob would be there.
No mention was made if the store took steps to warn customers of the added dangers on Saturday, though even many open carry advocates are growing increasingly disdainful of the “in-your-face” attitude of open carry extremists. Even the NRA, before backpedaling, criticized open carry extremists’ actions.
On June 13, Lake Ozark, MI, took a giant leap forward in banning open carry because it is bad for tourism, joining many businesses that are standing their ground against open carry terrorism–including Starbucks, Jack in the Box, Sonic, Chili’s, and Chipotle.
However, some businesses still have not practiced rational thought regarding large crowds bringing dangerous, loaded weapons into establishments where there are likely to be any number of children and other innocent bystanders.
Recently, open carry advocates Jerad and Amanda Miller shot two police officers in cold blood in a Cici’s Pizza. The pair then draped the Gadsden flag over the bodies before moving on to a Walmart. There, a Good Guy With a Gun™ attempted to stop them, and paid for it with his life. Jerad Miller was killed by police, and Amanda took her own life. The Millers, supporters of welfare cowboy Cliven Bundy, declared their attack to be the beginning of a “Revolution.”
Last year, almost two dozen heavily-armed Open Carry Texas members waited outside the Blue Mesa Grill for no better reason than to intimidate four members of Moms Demand Action, who were lunching inside. The “responsible gun owners” have threatened to publish the personal information of all who dare call the police if they become concerned with the group, actually published the information of someone who called the police, and spat on, stalked, hurled slurs at, and even threatened to rape women who oppose their actions.
Open Carry Texas and other groups have backed down, and instructed their acolytes to no longer enter establishments without verifying they are welcome, which is a step forward. However, businesses like Home Depot, which recently hosted a large open carry event with a gun giveaway, and Target, continue to place customers at risk by allowing these gatherings.
The Saturday gathering at Target featured CJ Grisham, leader of Open Carry Texas. FreakOutNation reports that Grisham, who was armed with a black powder pistol and a loaded AR-15, was convicted of interfering with police duties. That conviction, by Texas law, makes Grisham ineligible for a concealed handgun license at present time by Texas state law. However, is is entirely legal for Grisham to walk around with a loaded high-capacity weapon.
Loaded weapons have no place outside the shooting range. The fact that Target, Home Depot, and other establishments that accept this practice will not practice a small amount of rational thought is highly disconcerting–and one day, will likely lead to loss of life.
One would expect better from Target, given that a loaded handgun was recently found in the toy aisle of a South Carolina store.
For your own safety, it is likely best that you avoid these places for the time being.
