When photographer Lindsay Foster shared photos of two fathers welcoming their newborn, born to a surrogate mother, into the world, she was not expecting the touching pictures to take the internet by storm — but that’s exactly what happened.
The fathers, BJ and Frankie, named their newborn son Milo.
Foster wrote on Facebook:
“Words can not tell you how wonderful it was to witness this amazing moment in time. But I am VERY hopeful that these images can make you feel the deep LOVE and admiration that everyone felt for this surrogate mom and the baby’s new parents. These Daddies will most certainly be two amazing parents.
I look at these pictures and I immediately tear up.
The top picture is one of my favourites because everyone is included.
Surrogate mom and her husband, the new parents and their baby boy Milo, and two wonderful and amazing midwives.
Great job to everyone!!!”
She was right — the photographs are, indeed, touching, and serve as proof that gay parents can be just as loving as straight ones, no matter what Republicans claim.
Unfortunately, conservatives showed up to demean this obviously loving couple and their child. Despite Foster’s request that negative comments not be posted, right-wingers simply had to have their say:
The love these two men obviously have for their child is the same as any straight couple, yet the Bible-based hatred is unbelievable. Perhaps, one day, our society will reach a point that we have shamed these zealots into silence. Until then, the rational parts of society can appreciate these beautiful photos for what they are: an example that gay people are just people–nothing more, and deserve the same rights as everyone else.
