Gun Owners of America (GOA) has sunk even further into the depths of depravity, using the anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in a fundraising drive.
Erich Pratt, spokesman for the group claims that the polls which show overwhelming support for tougher background checks are inaccurate and points to other polls which show the opposite and claims that Americans, for the most part, are in favor of looser gun laws. Where he finds these polls is anyone’s guess as a search of the internet does not turn up any such polls.
He has also claimed that it is necessary to raise more money now because the President has been using the incident at Sandy Hook for the last year by politicizing it and calling for an “attack” on the second amendment and the right of the people to bear arms.
The group entitled their post, “Good news, just one year after Sandy Hook” and bragged that, “Since the shooting last year, Gun Owners of America has spent thousands upon thousands of hours debating anti-gun spokesmen … lobbying Congress … and blanketing the airwaves with a hard-hitting, pro-gun message.”
The post also speaks of Pratt’s appearances with Piers Morgan shortly after the shooting saying that, “one reporter said Pratt calmly and rationally took ‘the arrogant British host completely apart’ and debunked every ‘tired liberal claim’ about gun control.”
What they fail to mention is that the reporter they are speaking of is not an objective reporter, and that the article was more op-ed than objective reporting. It was Cliff Kincaid of U.S.A. Survival News, hardly an unbiased source, which ran the story under the headline, “Obama’s Media Parrot Demolished on CNN.”
Pratt and GOA have found a sympathetic ear at Fox News, of course, where they feigned concern for the victims at Sandy Hook while touting the loosening of restrictions in many states since the massacre.
