A 22-year-old Riverdale, Utah man, Joseph Kelley, was spotted in a JC Penney with an unloaded AR-15 slung across his back and a loaded Glock 19C in a sidearm holster earlier this week. Cindy Yorgason, who was shopping at the time, thought the spectacle was interesting so she took a few photos, which later went viral after she posted them to her Facebook profile.
When asked by The Salt Lake City Tribune why he did it, Kelley replied that he wanted to prove that firearms are safe in the hands of responsible owners. He also said he routinely carries guns around so he can protect people from “criminals, cartels, drug lords” and “evil men.” It should be noted that it is legal to publicly carry a semi-automatic rifle in Utah, as long as it’s not loaded.
Are we supposed to believe someone with judgement this poor is sane enough to own guns? Newsflash, life is not a movie or a video game. Carrying weapons around like this is likely to just scare people, including small children and previous victims of gun violence, for no reason. We think gun nuts like James Kelley continue to make themselves look stupider and crazier by the minute, and we’re pretty sure it’s going to backfire. Sorry, just couldn’t help ourselves to the pun.
