LOS ANGELES- A man riding his bike while wearing headphones died last year because a couple of cops categorized him into the demographic of people who are typically up to no good.
In a country where it is legal to own and carry firearms, Noel Aquilar had literally committed no crime that the deputies were aware of.
Being a young Hispanic male in L.A. is apparently crime enough.
Police initially lied, painting Aquilar as the aggressor, and even claiming he had pulled a gun on him.
According to Raw Story:
“Immediately after the incident happened, the media reported it as if Aguilar had shot the officer, because that is what the officers said in their initial statement, however, further investigation proved that they were lying. Also, police claimed that Aguilar reached for their guns, but the video proved that this was a lie as well.”
What actually likely started the incident was that Aguilar had a good idea how his day was going to play out, and it ended with him getting f*cked over by the cops just for being outside and brown.
So Aquilar decides to run and take his chances; because at least if he ran for it, there was a chance that his day may not end with a huge fine or jail time.
I understand this logic full well, because I know what it’s like to have a cop aching to arrest you for no reason other than he or she doesn’t like the way you look.
The video begins after the deputies have caught up to Aquilar and tackled him to the ground.
Unfortunately for Aguilar, he got stuck with two real dumb*ss cops.
Not only does Deputy Jose Ruiz end up shooting his partner, but he then lets his partner assume that it was the suspect that had shot him!
After Noel Aquilar tries to lift his body to get the two large men off his back, Deputy Ruiz fires blindly, shooting Deputy Albert Murade in the stomach.
Deputy Murade yells out, “I’ve been shot!”
Officer Ruiz is silent. He doesn’t bother telling his partner that it was he who shot him.
Even Aquilar tries to explain, saying:
“I didn’t shoot nobody!”
Instead, Ruiz decides to shoot blindly toward Aquilar once again.
Moments later Murade pulls his weapon and shoots Aguilar three more times in the back.
All while Noel Aquilar is lying face-down on the concrete.
You would think they would be done, but they weren’t.
They continued to sit on Aquilar’s back after shooting him multiple times.
They did not try to offer him medial aid, or allow him the ability to breathe.
At one point, Noel Aquilar can be heard screaming, “I’m dying!”
Even after Murade leaves the camera’s range to sit down, Ruiz stays on Aguilar’s back until he is no longer moving at all.
It isn’t until other officers arrive on the scene that Ruiz is literally pulled off of Aquilar.
Ruiz can be seen as visibly shaken on the video.
This could be because he realized a camera was rolling, or because he realized he just ended his career in probably the dumbest way imaginable.
Angel Carrazco is the attorney representing the Aquilar family.
He said this:
“The first shot is not justified because the victim is very vulnerable, he’s on his side. The other three shots from the back, every single one of those is unjustified. For me, it seems like it’s murder. We got the video through an independent witness that was there. This is evidence that we’ve had in the last twenty days.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is to blame for yet another death, a death that will likely never see justice.
