The government shutdown is affecting some who no one would have guessed might be impacted by it, namely, the KKK.
This Saturday at the Gettysburg National Military Park, the Confederate White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan had a permit and were preparing to hold a rally to impeach President Obama. But with all National Parks closed by the shutdown of the government on Tuesday, the rally will have to be held elsewhere or not at all.
The reason behind the rally is that the group doesn’t accept the proof that Obama is a natural born citizen and they do not believe he is qualified to be President. Sound familiar? Yup, the KKK and certain elements of the GOP share the same platform.
The permit was issued by the Park Service, officials explained, because even though the majority of the country finds the positions of the Klan to be deplorable, they still have the same First Amendment rights as anyone else.
The group’s Imperial Wizard Richard Preston says that his group will be in Gettysburg on Saturday whether the Park has re-opened or not and that he is looking into the possibility of holding his rally in the town square saying, “If the borough laws say we can be there, we will be there with a bull horn.”
