On Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the DOJ was going to reestablish the Domestic Terrorism Executive Committee, which was shut down after the terrorist attack on 9/11 (go figure that), and the primary push for the Committee will be the investigation of domestic anti-government terrorism and racial animus.
And the political Right is losing it’s collective mind.
We’ve seen a reaction like this before; back in 2009, when a leaked DHS report warned of right-wing extremism and focused on the radical right, it was decried as an attack on conservatives.
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center:
[box type=”shadow”]In his statement announcing the DOJ committee’s revival, Holder noted that this decision comes after more than a decade of focus on the threat of international terrorists, while a number of recent incidents have underscored that they are not the only threat. “We must also concern ourselves with the continued danger we face from individuals within our own borders who may be motivated by a variety of other causes from anti-government animus to racial prejudice,” Holder said.[/box]
The right has since made it very clear the only good conservative is one that lugs around multiple full-automatic shotguns in public, bombs women’s health clinics, and wraps themselves in the flag while carrying the cross and wearing White skin. For instance, Pat Dollard, who runs a far-right website, ran a measured and responsible headline “Holder Mobilizes Group To Wage War On The White Man.” Alex Jones, a usual suspect who’s practically cornered the market on tinfoil, knows exactly what Holder’s intentions are:
[box type=”shadow”]In reality, Holder’s task force will undoubtedly focus on the Obama administration’s political enemies, mainly returning military veterans, conservatives and those who identify with the Tea Party. Such groups have been increasingly linked to terrorism by multiple federal agencies. … Given the documented history of the federal government’s involvement in facilitating terrorism, the administration will likely do whatever it can to create the necessary scenario to bolster its executive power.[/box]
It’s so funny to hear Jones talk about reality. You’d think he almost knows what it is.
Another conspiracy website was also ready to go and admit they were terrorists, but threw some racism into the mix, too. According to the Daily Slave, Holder got his job because he’s black, supports government financed terrorism, and was apparently accused of being involved in Oklahoma City through some sort of interaction with then President Bill Clinton. These accusations, by the way, came only from far right websites, and we know how “reliable” they are. They concluded by saying “Simply put, this clown is an evil lawyer terrorist who should be tried for high crimes and treason. His announcement of a task force to stop ‘homegrown’ terrorists is a joke when he himself is a terrorist criminal. This savage should be rotting in a prison cell.”
[box type=”shadow”]This regime is now justifiably terrified that attempts to overthrow them and re-establish our constitutional government and the rule of law may occur. A nazi/Stalin regime like rule is about to begin where people will be arrested and detained without evidence but on suspicion alone. Unlike Germany, there are no allies to come to our rescue to stop it.[/box]
So far, the reaction has only been restrained to the far right. However, back in 2009, a number of mainstream Republican pundits stepped forward to condemn the report as well. Time will tell if mainstream Republicans will even take note, but given their tendency to be the slave of their radicalized and increasingly dangerous and deranged base, it seems likely they will.
In some ways, it’s refreshing to see so many right-wingers practically admit outright that they’re terrorists by losing it in this manner. In another way, however, it’s like being alone in the dark with only a candle, and watching the flickering light scintillate off the eyes of millions of big, aggressive, venomous spiders all around in the shadows.
