It only took three days for the fears of the TEApublicans to begin to come true, and in the worst possible way, a staunch Republican voter has tried Obamacare and, horrors, he not only likes it, he is actually talking to the media about it!
61 year-old Butch Matthews, a former small business owner in Little Rock, Arkansas, says he is a die-hard Republican and had been skeptical of the law — right up until the time when he checked it out and found that he could obtain much better coverage than he has had at a much lower price.
Speaking to Sy Mukherjee of ThinkProgress, Matthews said that his old Blue Cross plan cost him $1,069 per month and had a $10,000 deductible.
He purchased a silver plan on the Arkansas state exchange for a $0 premium after applying the subsidy that his low income qualified him for with a $750 deductible, vastly superior to the bronze plan that has been costing him so much.
When asked what his advice to fellow Republicans would be concerning Obamacare he said:
I would tell them to learn more about it before they start talking bad about it. Be more informed, get more information, take your time and study and not just go by just what you hear on one side or the other. Actually check the facts on it. […] I still am a very strong Republican, but this… I’m so happy that this came along, our home is paid for, vehicle’s paid for, this is our expense that we have. We have more expense on medical care than everything else put together, so this is going to be a great help for us.
Welcome to your nightmare in the real world, Ted Cruz and company. Once the word starts to spread, it is all over. The fat lady will have sung.
