The Texas council member who found herself in hot water following the public release of a private conversation in which she made very racist remarks is not backing down, and is making a stand beside her bigoted opinion come hell or high water.
Connie Trube made her statements during a private meeting, saying that “It’s not going to get any better until you get those blacks off the school board. She really turned black. She got on the school board with the rest of the blacks and they all just ganged up and that’s why the school system has gone to hell.”
Trube isn’t backing down, apologizing, or resigning. Instead, she’s standing beside her remarks, calling them her “honest opinion.”
“What is on the tape is nothing more than me stating my honest opinion, and I don’t back down from that,” Trube said. “I never denied what was on the tape.”
After dealing with all the coded “niggardly isn’t racist, and you’re racist for thinking that I’m racist for calling our Black president that!” double-speech that conservatives pull, it’s almost refreshing to see one straight up admit they’re a bigot.
La Marque Mayor, Bobby Hocking, said that “racism will not be tolerated.” The investigation into her remarks will be given to the U.S. Department of Justice at the end of the of the month. For her efforts, Trube has received an official censure. What she really needs is the official boot.
