You read it here first, Glenn Beck…WE CALLED IT. The GOP’s corporate backers from Wall Street are turning on the TEApublican party. A party that one Republican admitted has been absolutely shanghai’d by the Tea Party.
On September 30th, we ran an article titled “Here’s how the shutdown will hurt Teapublicans the most, and why it won’t last,” where we talked about how the government shutdown will force the GOP’s corporate owners to turn on their pet party. From the article:
“HOUSING INDUSTRY: A shutdown means no Federal home loans issued. Federal home loans account for about 30% of all of the loans issued in the United States, which will result in a concordant drop in home sales. THE BACKFIRE: The Real Estate industry is the fourth largest source of bribes pouring into D.C., behind retirees, banking and law firms — ahead of Big Pharma, insurance and oil and gas. In 2013 alone, Osama Bin Boehner himself got $186,600 from Real Estate and $380,000 from banks that finance home loans with government backing. With a potential loss of 30% in real estate sales during a shutdown, you can bet Boehner and the TEApublican money men are going to quickly override the frothing screams of their Teabagger base.”
SMALL BUSINESS: From the video, you know that while not a single member of our “mandatory” congress will go without pay, about 41% of other (apparently less essential) government workers will. THE BACKFIRE: Think that furloughs aren’t going to hurt Republicans? Think again. Small businesses account for the lion’s share of funds sent to Republicans, and they’ll get hit the hardest by the shutdown. Every week of a government shutdown drops quarterly Gross Domestic Product growth by about 0.15%.
That’s not going to grind growth to a halt, but it does cut down money spent inside the country by quite a bit. So, if you’re a small business owner who won’t make October’s lease payment because business has suddenly dried up, or you’re a member of the Chamber of Commerce who sent money to the Republican Party last year, look into the mirror and say…“Thanks, Boehner!”
Today, Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, had to face down some of the GOP’s top donors to answer some tough questions about why their pet politicians allowed this costly shutdown to happen. Walden minced no words with his owners.
“Listen, we have to do this because of the Tea Party. If we don’t, these guys are going to get primaried and they are going to lose their primary.”
After dodging responsibility and trying to put it on the ignorant Teabagger base, Walden then turned on the donors themselves. His charge related to whether or not they were “precinct captains,” or local election organizers. The answer was that no…they live on Wall Street, and cabs don’t go to Bumblescrew, Alabama. Walden responded.
“I hear this complaint all the time. but no one gets involved at the local level. The Tea Party gets involved at the local level.”
So…wow. Gee, Money guys. Who’d a thunk that financially backing candidates who were popular among a bunch of deliberately ignorant, evangelical bigots who are too stupid to run a calculator (much less an economy) would BACKFIRE? Oh, dear God…GASP!! Yes, Fox conditioned them pretty well to absorb your corporate ideology. But, as a wise man once said…
“You can’t fix stupid.”
But, failing to heed the wisdom of a man so popular among the Teatards whose ignorance they attempted to harness, the Money Men were equal parts baffled and enraged as to HOW this could happen.
Fred Zeidman, a Houston-based money man and major donor to both of Bush’s campaigns said this:
“The Tea Party is not looking at the big picture. In the long run, it will have deleterious effects on the whole party when we could have taken the high road. There is so much going on right now with Obamacare, and no one is saying a word about it.
“I am not wiring a check to anyone. That is not working for the American people.”
Yeah…this is coming from a guy who funded George W. Bush. Yeah…THAT Bush. Munr Kazmir, a Jersey-based Bush donor had similar sentiments to share:
“I have raised a lot of money, but I am not raising any more for House candidates.”
Of course, we all know why Republicans are pushing Obamacare so hard. We all know what this farce is about, and NRCC communications director Andrea Bozek made that much very clear.
“Obamacare continues to be our No. 1 fund-raising tool. We have broken records in our on-line fund-raising and engagement in the last few weeks.”
She also made no bones about exactly what we can expect from the GOP in the next year.
“Thirteen months is a long time. And it’s going to seem even longer for House Democrats who will be spending that time defending Obamacare’s broken promises.”
So, there it is Republicans. Your people in the NRCC are counting those fund-raising dollars from the crazies on-line, and the major donors are turning against you. These people, who calculate for a living, see that this equation just doesn’t balance as long as the Tea Party is involved. If you want to know what’s in store for you, you’d better stop listening to the fund-raisers at the NRCC, who don’t see past the next check, and look to your own long-term donors.
They’re the ones writing the checks that keep you in office, and they’re leaving the TEApublican party like rats from a sinking ship. And…WHERE do you think that sweet donor money is going next year? Hmmm…13 months is a long time, indeed.
