Just when you thought it was safe to go in the loony bin…a Republican thinks a midwestern cop who murdered a black kid should be invited to the White House. It’s interesting and telling how Republicans like Peter King have reacted to Wilson’s clearing by the Grand Jury. Not to Wilson himself, but more to the whole incident.
In some circles, at least at one point in time, killing someone in the line of duty was for most police officers a sad departure from their real job; that is, capturing suspected criminals and bringing them in for justice. Now though, at least to hear Darren Wilson and his conservative friends tell it…killing suspects in the line of duty is the job. And they should be invited to the White House for doing it. Well, to certain people.
Of course, you’d kind of expect that line of thought from some corners of the Planet Conservative. But this particular bit of insanity is noteworthy because it comes from one of the more moderate (or at least, less batsh*t insane) voices in the GOP.
You might recognize Peter King as the “establishment” (read: Reagan corporate) Republican who has slammed Ted Cruz as the leader of a “dark strain” or Republicans, who slapped down Rand Paul with the words “he doesn’t deserve to be in the United States Senate,” and roundly reamed the Teapublican Party for last year’s shutdown. In short, King is as close to “plausibly sane” (or at least traditionally corrupt) as exists anywhere in the GOP these days.
And yet…he made this suggestion on Tuesday to Fox Business. (See? Traditionally corrupt.)
I think it would be very helpful if President Obama went and met with the police officer, or invited him to the White House and said, ‘You’ve gone through four months of smear and slander, and the least we can do is tell you that it’s unfortunate that it happened and thank you for doing your job.
I thought it was terrible how, over the last four months, a narrative was put out there by our national leaders and by many in the media presuming that the police officer was guilty…I wish [Obama] had said one good word about the police, one good word about Officer Wilson, who has gone through all this.”
Of course, maybe this is just a case of a lack of a sense of irony…always a shortcoming for conservatives.
Remember backwhen Bill O’Reilly (along with every other conservative in America) practically lynched Obama for inviting a poet named Common to the White House? Common, if you remember, made waves because he once visited someone who was — perhaps wrongly — convicted of killing a cop. That guy shouldn’t have been in the White House.
The KILLER COP, however….now, that’s different.
He’s practically the head of Seal Team Six. A national hero. We should give him his own Battle Flag…hang it in front of the White House before his arrival. He’s probably already got one in his living room.
Who’s running this ward anyway?
