The thing about dead horses is that it’s important that one remembers not to beat them. While right-wingers are complaining that we need JUSTICE FOR BENGHAZI (Obama’s impeachment, of course), those of us who are still grounded to reality.
The Obama administration’s lack of wrongdoing related to the attack that killed four men has been obvious to most of the world for some time, but conservatives have remained resilient, even in the face of defeat. No matter what, they have always found themselves able to pick up a stick and continue to throttle the deceased equine that is a misguided belief that ‘the black guy did it.’ They have clung to their belief that President Obama issued a stand-down order (once again, this was in complete contrast to the real world) and that nearly every single action the President has taken is intended to distract from Benghazi–including the capture of one of the ringleaders of the attack.
On Thursday, even the GOP-led House Intelligence Committee was forced to conclude that there was no deliberate wrongdoing on the part of the Obama Administration in the 2012 attack on the Consulate.
The report “confirms that no one was deliberately misled, no military assets were withheld and no stand-down order (to U.S. forces) was given,” said Rep. Mike Thompson, the second-highest ranking Democrat on the committee.
- — Intelligence agencies were “warned about an increased threat environment, but did not have specific tactical warning of an attack before it happened.”
- — “A mixed group of individuals, including those associated with al Qaeda, (Moammar) Khadafy loyalists and other Libyan militias, participated in the attack.”
- — “There was no ‘stand-down order’ given to American personnel attempting to offer assistance that evening, no illegal activity or illegal arms transfers occurring by U.S. personnel in Benghazi, and no American was left behind.”
- — The administration’s process for developing “talking points” was “flawed, but the talking points reflected the conflicting intelligence assessments in the days immediately following the crisis.”
Republicans, including career witch hunter Darrell Issa, have been making some pretty wild claims about the Benghazi attacks. Perhaps they will now allow this matter to drop so they can focus on what matters: depriving women and LGBT individuals of their basic human rights. It’s not like we can expect any actual governance.
