Glenn Beck, speaking at the Values Voters Summit in Washington, D.C. used the horror of the concentration camps to get laughs during his speech.
Taking scraps of history and adding his own lies and mania, Beck was talking about the cloth symbols sewn onto clothing to categorize prisoners. Beck then asked the values-promoting crowd what the purple star symbolized .
Someone shouted out “gays.”
Beck then corrected the audience member, saying that pink badges were used for gays — and the crowd laughed.
But who was forced to wear the purple patches? Beck had his own made up answer. He claimed that bible scholars were identified by that color marking.
Actually, no. Purple triangles were used to denote Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The problem with this lie-based speech recognized the true value of this fabrication. Those attending this summit can now believe that they, Christians, were also victims of the Holocaust, since they, are in fact bible scholars.
The Nazis captured and killed many different groups, including of course the Jews, gays, gypsies, the mentally disabled, intellectuals and then resident from any country they invaded. But Germany was a Catholic and Christian stronghold in Europe at the time, and Hitler even used Judeo-Christian symbolism in much of his propaganda. In light of this historical fact, Beck’s revisionist history is laughable.
