Freedom Works, the organization that exists primarily to point out how the government mismanages our tax dollars, has reportedly been unable to secure enough donations and, as a result, is going broke.
Oh, the irony.
Presently, Freedom Works is carrying a large debt, recently took out a 1 million dollar loan as fundraising revenues are down by almost 75% and the leadership still enjoys opulent perks.
There are other reasons for the fiscal problems, of course. As the Tea Party “matures” and continues to demonstrate a propensity to send in money to anyone who hates government, other organizations are competing for these dollars.
Also, Freedom Works has a problematic workplace environment with ongoing staff turnover, according to several sources. Not the folks who enjoy expensive hotel stays and craft beer- they aren’t leaving, but many of the employees tasked with day-to-day operations.
FW decided to fund Glenn Beck’s network. Hey, it’s encouraging that someone with symptoms of severe mental illness is making money, but The Blaze is costing this organization a million a year.
Also, an ugly power challenge took out former founder Dick Armey, who walked away after gun threats and carrying a cool $8 million severance.
In addition, the Koch Brothers, aka sugar daddies, are upset with the shutdown. Their employees, oops Members of Congress that they have bankrolled, are not performing satisfactorily.
What is the famous quote? Freedom Works: We have met the enemy and it is us.
Thank goodness the federal government operates more efficiently than the group opposed to it.
