Wayne LaPierre was interviewed by Fox to discuss his reaction to the strict new gun-safety laws passed in Connecticut today. According to LaPierre, “there’s no evidence that anything would change” if we limited the size of magazines. Except that there is; witnesses say that 11 kids got away while Adam Lanza was trying to reload. As a Newtown father who was interviewed by 60 Minutes says “it’s simple arithmetic,” but facts and logic have no place at the NRA.
We respect Kelly’s response to LaPierre’s assertion that limiting magazines to 10-rounds wouldn’t save lives. She said,
But, how do you know Wayne? Because Adam Lanza… [talking over LaPierre] Let me just jump in and I’ll give you the floor, I promise. Adam Lanza., you know, his mother was a legal gun owner and how do you know that this person…his mother…would not have obeyed the law and limited the magazine clip and then Adam Lanza would have been limited to 10 rounds instead of 30?
After LaPierre’s predictable response asserting that magazines can be switched out “in a second” Kelly added,
I do want to tell the viewers that the New York Times was reporting based on interviews with parents that officials have said that he…Lana…fired 154 rounds in about four minutes and that the parents claim that they have been told that in the time it took him to reload in one of the classrooms 11 children were able to escape.
