According to Fox “News” “strategic” “analyst” Ralph Peters, President Obama does not feel the same “love” that the right-wing feels for Israel. In fact, Peters claimed on Tuesday night that if Israel “disappeared from the face of the Earth tomorrow,” Obama “would not shed a tear.”
Peters made the remarks while sitting in on Fox’s Hannity, hosted by everyone’s favorite propagandist, Sean Hannity. Peters said that “I am convinced, Sean, absolutely convinced, that Obama, Kerry, and company have accepted that Iran will get a bomb.” he added that “They just don’t want it to happen on Obama’s watch. They want it a decent interval of denial.”
Later in the same segment, Peters said that Obama was “willing to give Israel up” and “Let’s face it: If Israel disappeared from the face of the Earth tomorrow, Obama would not shed a tear.”
The right-wing has been going nuts over Bibi’s speech to Congress these last few days, but the history of Israel in America’s politics runs deeper. There are actually two factions that are using Israel as a tool, and neither of them give a single damn about what happens to Israel after it’s accomplished the goals that they want it for.
The Neocons use Israel as a springboard into whatever war they can get their grubby mitts into. Israel is a casus belli; all that a neocon has to do mention Israel and they think it’s a ticket to whatever war their masters in the military industry complex are paying them for this week. Neocons will often claim to “love” Israel and want to defend it, but what they really love is spending your tax dollars to kill Arabs, Americans, and Israelis.
Then there’s the religious right. It’s useful if you think of them less as Christians and more as something out of a Lovecraft novel; they believe that Israel is necessary to fulfill the prophecy “present” in their holy book. According to a . . . creative . . . interpretation of their book, the presence of Israel is necessary in an extended ceremony that, when the stars are right, will tear open a hole in reality and vacuum all the true believers into a non-Euclidean hyperspatial dimension while ancient things awaken to destroy the world. They don’t care about Israel anymore than the neocons do, but because they’re desperate to punish people they disagree with, they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure Israel persists long enough for
Yog-Sothoth Jesus to destroy it completely and orchestrate a mass murder of the Jews so brutal it will eclipse the Holocaust.
Both sides are also profoundly antisemitic.
“Bibi” would do well to remember that these are the two factions he’s playing to. Neither one of them cares about Israel anymore than they’d care for, say, their phone.
Which side Fox falls on is immaterial, because it does a good job pandering to both.
