There is nothing new about Fox News inventing its own “facts.” They do it all the time and in the case of Plan B the emergency contraceptive, they are doing it once again.
Plan B is an emergency contraceptive to be used shortly after unprotected sex to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy. Science has shown that the pill which is nothing more than a high dosage of the same hormones used in standard birth control pills does not prevent implantation of a fertilized egg, yet Fox continues to report that it is an abortifacient, concluding that no employer should have to provide insurance which covers it if it goes against their religious beliefs.
Even the National Catholic Reporter has said that it is not an abortifacient, but simply another form of birth control — preventing pregnancy, not terminating a pregnancy which has already been established.
In the Hobby Lobby case which the Supreme Court has agreed to hear, owner David Green and his family claim that it violates their religious convictions to supply an abortifacients to employees, saying they should not be required to provide insurance which will pay for Plan B.
Fox’s Shannon Bream claims that there is “science” which supports the assertion that Plan B does interfere with a pregnancy and does not just prevent it, saying, “For people who believe that that’s an abortafacient — that it can cause an abortion. And there is science that these folks cite. That’s a different thing. They don’t want to be funding an abortion.”
