Fox News Still Labors Under the Delusion that ‘Morning-After Pill’ Causes an Abortion (Video)

There is nothing new about Fox News inventing its own “facts.” They do it all the time and in the case of Plan B the emergency contraceptive, they are doing it once again.

Plan B is an emergency contraceptive to be used shortly after unprotected sex to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy.  Science has shown that the pill which is nothing more than a high dosage of the same hormones used in standard birth control pills does not prevent implantation of a fertilized egg, yet Fox continues to report that it is an abortifacient, concluding that no employer should have to provide insurance which covers it if it goes against their religious beliefs.

Even the National Catholic Reporter has said that it is not an abortifacient, but simply another form of birth control — preventing pregnancy, not terminating a pregnancy which has already been established.

In the Hobby Lobby case which the Supreme Court has agreed to hear, owner David Green and his family claim that it violates their religious convictions to supply an abortifacients to employees, saying they should not be required to provide insurance which will pay for Plan B.

Fox’s Shannon Bream claims that there is “science” which supports the assertion that Plan B does interfere with a pregnancy and does not just prevent it, saying, “For people who believe that that’s an abortafacient — that it can cause an abortion. And there is science that these folks cite. That’s a different thing. They don’t want to be funding an abortion.”

About Bob Cull

I'm retired and live in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY. I have strong opinions and my political bent has not changed since I was in high school. Most of my family thinks that I need to find a "real" hobby to fill my time in retirement, but I am content to share my opinions with others and exercise my "right" as a cranky old retired dude to express my views--which are based on many years of real world experience.

  1. Thanks Bob! Your point about people listening to Faux News is right on point. Case to prove that is that I have a family member that says Fox News is the only news that tells the truth. With him saying that how do I reply? The true believers of this propaganda channel can’t and won’t even think of checking the facts. As you said, the facts be damned, they’re not interested in the truth only in proving their point no matter how flawed it might be in reality!

    • Sure you can get them to check the “facts”, Kevan. They are more than willing to provide you with links — to Red Flag, Breitbart, Infowars, The Blaze, WND…

  2. Know what I like about the writers of aattp.org? They aren’t afraid to reply to their own or others stories. In the case of Breaking Neo-conservative you must be breaking air cause that’s all between your skull. Which ties in nicely to Bob Cull commenting on this story. Bob, you are exactly right, but being right, about anything, at anytime, means nothing to these people. They have all the answers and if you dispense facts they certainly aren’t going to let those get in the way of their beliefs. It’s sad that BC would make such comments but that appears to be the conservative tact, to be as rude and ridiculous as they can be. That way, you walk away shaking your head at them and they think they won the argument. In reality, they have proven themselves as, and I’ll be nice, ill informed as anyone can be.

    • First let me thank you for the compliment, Kevan and then we’ll move on to the point you made.

You’re absolutely right, these guys get all or most of their “news” from Faux News and it has been shown that those who watch no news on TV, listen to no news on the radio and read no newspaper are BETTER INFORMED than those who get it from Faux News.

They will tell you that they get their “news” from them because they are the only ones who “just give you the facts and let you make up your own mind” which is just not true. What they do is to tell them what they want to hear and the facts be damned, this claim that Plan B is an abortifacient is a prime example of that. Even though the science says otherwise they continue to claim that there is science that says that it does cause abortions and these morons eat it up.

They do the same thing with climate change insisting that there is no consensus among climate scientists that it is real and that it is significantly impacted by human activities. As long as 3% (all of whom work for big business) disagree then there is no consensus, I have actually had these idiots tell me that consensus means there is 100% agreement.

  3. Breaking Conservative

Ah heck, why not extend abortion for a trimester after birth. Have a baby and it’s just too much to deal with, no problem, just drop your baby off at your local Waste Management for proper disposal. If life has no value before birth, why does it have value after?

    • AATTP

Oh, as opposed to the RW who would just let the little “taker” slowly starve to death?

    • John Prager

Leviticus 27 has some answers for you, BC. In fact, what you suggested is EXACTLY what the Bible says, you will be delighted to know!

“1The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate a person to the Lord by giving the equivalent value, 3 set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels[a] of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel[b]; 4 for a female, set her value at thirty shekels[c]; 5 for a person between the ages of five and twenty, set the value of a male at twenty shekels[d] and of a female at ten shekels[e]; 6 for a person between one month and five years, set the value of a male at five shekels[f] of silver and that of a female at three shekels[g] of silver; 7 for a person sixty years old or more, set the value of a male at fifteen shekels[h] and of a female at ten shekels. 8 If anyone making the vow is too poor to pay the specified amount, the person being dedicated is to be presented to the priest, who will set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford.”

Since money was everything with regard to human life, and no value is assigned until 1 month, what you suggest falls exactly in line with the Christian way of doing things! I say let’s do it! *eyeroll*

    • Breaking Conservative

C’mon, it’d be a cheap source of protein for livestock. Waste not, want not. (I tried to go biblical but only got to Ben)

    • Clearly someone else is using the family brain cell today, BC, because even you could not make such an asinine comment if you were using it. What the hell does birth control have to do with abortion? And before you follow the Faux News line, NO Plan B does not cause an abortion, the only abortifacient available is RU486.

    • Breaking Conservative

I admit I’m a bit of topic. Who cares about the MAP. I’m addressing the larger topic. Don’t be so narrow. Why not extend abortion for a term after birth? We don’t want to step on women’s rights now do we… Murder in the womb, no problem. Murder outside the womb? Guess you don’t have the stomach for it. Babies don’t even develop personality for 4 to 5 months… (WARNING. Liberal hypocrisy is about to be exposed.)

  4. Greg, thanks for posting that piece of garbage. You Teea Nuts sure know how to parrot Fox Noise talking points very well. Unfortunately, that’s all you know. If we start giving single cell zygotes the same rights as human beings then be prepared for the consequences of that. Funny, I didn’t notice at all the word born vs. unborn. Nor do I care to deebate you about that though I would advise you to look up the two words to learn the difference. & if your wife got or girlfriend got pregnant, would you ” make ” her have the rapist’s baby. I can’t think of a much more cruel thing to any woman traumatized by a rape than that. But, none of these words mean a thing to you or your fello anti-abortionist’s. Your so focused on giving a zygote the rights of a born human being that common sense means nothing to you. Go back to the Brightbart pages where you won’t be challenged to think at all, just parrot theirs & Fox Noise talking points. , too, would be interested on your views towards the poor, disabled getting help where needeed. I already know, don’t bother.

  5. chemically blocking implantation, you blockhead. The words themselves tell the story. BIRTH CONTROL!

    • Both regular birth control pills and Plan B use hormones to prevent ovulation, NOT BLOCK IMPLANTATION. No ovulation, no fertilization, no fertilization, nothing to block.

  6. That’s supposed to be in reply to Greg.

  7. By your own criteria. you could call a fetus a parasite, too. But we don’t do that because it’s not accurate.

Life does not begin at conception. Life begins at viability outside the womb. You can cherry-pick your definitions all you want, as can I.

  8. The morning after pill is ABSOLUTELY a method of abortion. It is a deliberate, pre-meditated attempt to prevent the development of the human life that is the pre-born baby FROM CONCEPTION.

The pre-born baby meets EVERY scientific test for life:

According to Hickman, Roberts, and Larson (1997), any living organism will meet the following seven basic properties of life:

    1) Chemical uniqueness. Living systems demonstrate a unique and
    complex molecular organization.
    2) Complexity and hierarchical organization. Living systems
demonstrate a unique and complex hierarchical organization.
    3) Reproduction. Living systems can reproduce themselves.
    4) Possession of a genetic program. A genetic program provides fidelity
    of inheritance.
    5) Metabolism. Living organisms maintain themselves by obtaining
    nutrients from their environments.
    6) Development. All organisms pass through a characteristic life cycle.
    7) Environmental reaction. All animals interact with their environment.

An analysis of the fertilized egg must be made to determine if the fertilized egg and the resulting zygote, embryo, and fetus can all be classified as living organisms. Do these entities meet the properties seen in all living organisms?

    1) Chemical Uniqueness. Fertilized eggs possess their own unique DNA
    from conception.
    2) Complexity and hierarchical organization. Hickman, Roberts, and
Larson (1997) explain that the most basic unit in the biological
hierarchy is the cell. The cell holds the properties of living organisms,
and cells can be manipulated in the laboratory and can be reproduced,
whereas nonliving elements cannot. Therefore, the fertilized egg would
meet this criteria, although it would be a more basic unit of the
    biological hierarchy.
    3) Reproduction. Francis Beckwith (1994) observes that the zygote
possesses two different methods of reproduction: cell reproduction and
twinning. According to Beckwith (1994), twinning is “a form of asexual
reproduction, which can occur after conception.”
    4) Possession of a genetic program. Francis Beckwith (1994) confirms
that from conception, the fertilized egg has “its own unique genetic
code.” The 46 chromosomes present at conception provide all of the
genetic information that will ever be needed.
    5) Metabolism. Francis Beckwith (1994) confirms that from conception,
the fertilized egg meets the requirement of metabolism.
    6) Development. Hickman, Roberts, and Larson (1997) state,
“Development describes the characteristic changes that an organism
undergoes from its origin (usually the fertilization of the egg by sperm)
to its final adult form.” Thus, although the fertilized egg will take on
different forms throughout its life cycle, the development of life begins
    at conception.
    7) Environmental interaction. The entity in the womb interacts with its
environment in many ways. Kicking and jumping are both examples.
In addition, research has shown that the fetus can be soothed by music
and can recognize the voice of its mother.

The fertilized egg, from the moment of conception, meets each of the properties that have been found to determine if an organism can be classified as living. Based on this definition, life begins at conception.

I would add to Point 7 that even as a single celled stage, the pre-born baby stimulates the production of oestrogen and progesterone in mother’s body to help prevent rejection as foreign tissue. (This also neatly disposes of the idea that the pre-born baby is merely “part of the mother’s body” with no separate identity.)

No joy for infanticide supporters, Bob. Whether it’s injecting their veins with the equivalent of acid (high-concentration saline injected into the baby and/or amniotic sac, a process known as “salting out”), ripping it apart with knives and scissors (D&C), or chemically blocking implantation, it’s still murdering a baby human being.

    • John Prager

I’m curious about your views on universal health care and food stamps.

    • Greg….do you take over the counter medication to help you with your menstrual cramps?

    • You’re a moron. The pill prevents fertilization, and without fertilization, it’s just another part of the mother – it has her DNA, and only her DNA. I suppose you think ejaculation is murder too.

    • This isn’t about life, and you know it. It’s about punishing “sin”, slutshaming and controlling women. Abortion is a necessary right that women need in this society in order to biologically stand on equal ground with men. Just imagine if abortion is banned tomorrow, nuts like you won’t stop. You’ll jump on the “Pill Kills” bandwagon and tell people that it kills women and children. There’s no extreme to how low you will go either (hand out any pamphlets to kids lately?).

Going by your definitions above every woman in America that has ever had sex is a baby murderer as well. Most fertilized eggs end up getting flushed out during menstruation.

    • Please feel free to tell us about your credentials, Greg. I wasn’t aware that you are a medical research professional.

Plan B is NOT an abortifacient, it is a high dosage of the same hormones used in a standard birth control pill, it prevents ovulation, no ovulation no fertilization, so how does that qualify as an abortion? Here’s a hint, IT DOESN’T.

If there is no fertilization there can be no abortion.
