FOX News has once again proven that it knows nothing about America in the February 10 edition of America’s Newsroom. Host Martha MacCallum has some interesting theories about what it takes to really be an American–and it’s not that socialist Obamacare allowing people to quit their jobs and be with their families without worrying about healthcare.
While Powers attempted repeatedly to allude to the right wing’s false claim that the recent Congressional Budget Office report indicated that millions of jobs would be lost the Daily Beast’s Kristen Powers shut her down repeatedly, reminding her that the CBO report did not say jobs would be lost–it indicated that there would be less need for some to maintain employment just for health insurance.
However, this idea of Americans having the option to leave the workforce was too much for MacCallum.
[box type=”shadow”]”I find the comparison to Europe one that many people might think is disturbing. The Europeans have their way of life, but what’s uniquely American is that people tend to want to work more, work harder, make as much as they can for their families. Some people work two and three jobs to make ends meet–and that is a value that has been considered for a long time to be something that has merit.”
This claim that it’s “uniquely American” to slave away for corporate profit and ignore one’s family is disturbing. MacCallum seems to have forgotten that their world countries endure this way on a regular basis.
