We talk a lot about “Faux” News telling lies and reporting falsehoods, but in this case they’ve taken news from a joke news source and reported on it as if it were real news. Yes, once again Fox has not bothered to vet their sources and actually discussed something fake as if it were real. Why would they do such a thing? To attack President Obama of course.
The original “story” came from a site called the National Report. To get an idea of what kind of website it is, a couple of the current “stories” on the website are, “Jesus Christ Boycotts Hobby Lobby,” and a story about police tasering kindergartners “for the heck of it.” Though apparently those seemed like perfectly logical news pieces in the real world. Therefore, when they saw this piece about Obama personally funding a Muslim museum during the government shutdown, they pounced on it.
Fox News host Anna Kooiman was attempting to paint President Obama in a bad light by saying that he is funding a Muslim museum in order to keep it open, while the Republicans want to pool resources to keep a World War II memorial open. Obviously a ploy to try to continue to push the fallacy that Obama is a secret Muslim bent on turning the United States into an Islamic nation, the story has a few kinks in it. First of all, although there is an actual International Museum of Muslim Cultures, it is located in Jackson, Mississippi and it is not a federally run or funded museum, thus it is not affected by the shutdown.
Beyond that? It’s a FAKE story! Seriously Fox? The fact checker couldn’t take the five minutes it would have required to see that it wasn’t real? Oh wait, Fox doesn’t have fact checkers. They don’t care about whether or not what they’re reporting is truthful, they just want to do everything they can to attack the President. One can only hope that this embarrassment helps some more people realize what a farce “Faux” News is, but unfortunately I’m sure it will do no such thing.
